A crosswind calculator built by a pilot, for pilots. Rotary knob controls inspired by real cockpit instruments. No typing, no fuss — just spin and fly.
Four tactile knobs for runway, wind direction, speed, and gusts. Touch to jump, drag to fine-tune. Designed for one-handed cockpit use.
See your crosswind and headwind components update in real time as you adjust any parameter. Color-coded severity at a glance.
Separate gust speed input with Vref adjustment advisories. Know exactly how much extra speed to carry for gusty conditions.
Automatic recommendations for flap reduction when crosswinds exceed 10 knots. Directional indicators show which side the wind hits.
Prefer typing over turning? Switch to keypad mode for direct numeric entry of runway, wind direction, speed, and gusts — with smart auto-advance between fields.
Use the Dials tab for cockpit-style rotary knob controls — touch to jump, drag to fine-tune. Or switch to Keypad for direct numeric entry with smart auto-advance between fields.
Spin the amber RWY knob to your active runway heading, or type it directly in keypad mode. Snaps to standard runway numbers 01–36.
Use the blue WIND and SPEED controls to match the reported winds from ATIS, AWOS, or your METAR.
Dial up or type the GUST value. The app automatically calculates the additional Vref speed you should carry.
The top display shows your crosswind component, headwind, wind side, and any pilot advisories — all in real time.
Every dollar from XW Calc goes directly toward developing an affordable flight audio recorder — a "black box" for general aviation. GA pilots deserve the same safety tools the airlines have, and we're building it.
People have offered donations and investment capital to fund this project. We appreciate that more than we can say — but we'd rather earn your support by building something genuinely useful today than simply accept money on a promise. There are free crosswind calculators out there. We believe this is the most intuitive one available, and by choosing it, you're investing in the future safety of general aviation.

XW Calc does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. The app runs entirely on your device with no network calls, no analytics, no tracking, and no ads.
The only data saved is your last-used dial settings (runway, wind direction, speed, and gust), stored locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults or Android SharedPreferences. This data never leaves your device.
CrosswindCalc does not use any third-party SDKs, analytics services, or advertising frameworks. There is zero data sharing with any third party.
